Analytics quality

How I approach GA4, event schemas, reporting trust, and the operational causes of misleading dashboards.

Analytics quality is not a dashboard design problem.

It is a collection problem, a schema problem, a governance problem, and sometimes a politics problem. Dashboards can be beautifully built and still mislead the business if the underlying events are incomplete, duplicated, renamed, blocked, or detached from commercial reality.

How I approach it

I look for the breakpoints before I look at the chart:

  • whether important events are defined consistently
  • whether GA4, ad platforms, CRM, and finance disagree for explainable reasons
  • whether consent behavior is visible in the data
  • whether event parameters are typed, stable, and useful
  • whether key conversion events match how the business actually creates value
  • whether reporting answers decisions rather than reporting activity

Analytics should reduce uncertainty. If it mainly creates arguments about definitions, the system needs repair.

Where this connects

Analytics quality depends on tracking architecture and feeds directly into media performance, CRO, CRM, and executive decision-making.
